Type of writing and the summary of the text Type of writing This is a declarative writing. Main ide
2、a of the passage As an important part of our lives, advertisement provides information and uses persuasive language and exciting images to encourage people to buy a product or service or believe in an idea. There are two main types of advertisements---mercial advertisements, paid for to promote a p
3、roduct or service and public service advertisements, free to serve the public. Main idea of 1st paragraph Advertisements are an important part of our lives. Main idea of 2nd paragraph Advertisements, including mercial advertisements and PSAs, provides information and uses persuasive language an
4、d exciting images to encourage people to buy a product or service or believe in an idea. Main idea of 3rd paragraph An advertisement may not tell you the plete truth. Try not to fall for the thick. Main idea of 4th paragraph PSAs are meant to teach us and help us lead better lives. Main idea of

8、e or try to make people believe untrue claims about products or services. However, PSAs are meant to teach us and help us lead better lives. We all want to be smart about what we believe, so be smart about advertisement. 高考練兵場 The speaker, a teacher from a munity college, addressed a sym
9、pathetic audience. Heads nodded in agreement when he said, "High school English teachers are not doing their jobs." He described the inadequacies of his students, all high school graduates who can use language only at a grade 9 level. I was unable to determine from his answers to my questions how th
10、is grade 9 level had been established. My topic is not standards nor its decline(降低). What the speaker was really saying is that eh is no longer young; he has been teaching for sixteen years, and is able to think and speak like a mature adult. My point is that the frequent plaint of one genera
11、tion about the one immediately following it is inevitable. It is also human nature to look for the reasons for our dissatisfaction. Before English became a school subject in the late nineteenth century, it was difficult to find the target of the blame for language deficiencies(缺陷). But since then, E
12、nglish teachers have been under constant attack. The plainers think they have hit upon an original idea. As their own mand of the language improves, they notice that young people do not have this same ability. Unaware that their own ability has developed through the years, they assume the new gen
13、eration of young people must be hopeless in this respect. To the eyes and ears of sensitive adults the language of the young always seems inadequate. Since this concern about the decline and fall of the English language is not perceived as a generational phenomenon but rather as something new and
