、history of the English language. B. The friendship between Murray and Minor. C. Minor and the first Oxford English Dictionary. D. Broadmoor Asylum and its patients. 此處是被省略的時(shí)間狀語從句,其相當(dāng)于:when film is compared to such art forms as music and painting.
3.A 考查have difficulty (in) doing sth的結(jié)構(gòu)。 compared with…
、。bring up養(yǎng)大,養(yǎng)育;look for尋找;try on試穿。 therefore因此;above all最重要的是;however然而;after all終究,畢竟。 8.B differ in在……上不同;be similar to與…… in common with和…… ref
、er to A as B意為“稱A 為B”。 add up to 總計(jì);add to 增加,增添;add補(bǔ)充說;add up 合計(jì)。 after all畢竟,終究; first of all首先,第一;in all總共,總計(jì);at all 常與not連用,表示“一點(diǎn)也不”。
make no difference沒有區(qū)別,沒有影響。 have a/an…influence on sb/s
20. B 此句是說作者想要表達(dá)自己的觀點(diǎn)(…it was time that taught a man everything)。
stick with忠心于; depend on依靠,依賴;do with處理,均不符合題意。 23.
26. D follow our wishes順應(yīng)我們的愿望。 27. 29. A 易誤選B。后面的no matter… 30. B 由后文的…but now I see I don'
、t catch… 31. B 此句是It is likely that+從句。 易誤選A。 32. A 讓快樂溜掉,只留下自己遺憾,而不是awful(可怕的);successful(成功的);terrible(可怕的)。 易誤選B。 33.
從最后一段的“Minor died in 1920, seven years before the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary was completed.”看出A選項(xiàng)是不正確的;從第二段的“…Murray had to find volunteers from Britain, the United States, and the British colonies to search every newspaper, magazine, and book ever written in English.
、Hundreds of volunteers responded, including William Chester Minor. Dr. Minor was an American surgeon who had served in the Civil War and was now living in England.” 從第三段的“Minor joined the army of v
、olunteers sending words and quotations to Murray”看出,Minor提供了大量詞匯和引文。 從第四段的“…Murray finally decided to travel to Crowthorne himself. When he arrived, he found Minor locked in a book-lined cell at the Broadmoor Asylum for the Criminally Insane.” 故選A。 39.
從第二段Minor自愿加入編詞典這個(gè)活動(dòng)可知,他對此很感興趣,與Murray有著共同的興趣,再從文章倒數(shù)第三段的“Murray and Minor became friends, sharing their love of words. Minor continued contributing to the dictionary, sending in more than 10,000 submissions in 20 years.” 根據(jù)文章中Minor在患精神病住院期間還堅(jiān)持詞典的編寫工作看出他的不尋常;從文章倒數(shù)第三段的“Minor continued contributing to the dictionary, sending in more than 10,000 submissions in 20 years.”
