3、her; yet, still he failed.He never did his homework, and he was always in trouble with Miss White.His heart would break under her sharp words, and when he was punished for failing to turn in his homework, he felt just miserable! Still, he did not study.  In the middle of the first semester of school

4、, the entire seventh grade was tested for basic skills.Steve hurried through his tests, and continued to dream of other things, as the day wore on.His heart was not in school, but in the woods, where he often escaped alone, trying to shut out the sights, sounds and smells of his alcoholic home.No on

5、e checked on him to see if he was safe.No one knew he was gone, because no one was sober enough to care.Oddly, Steve never missed a day of school.  One day, Miss White’s impatient voice broke into his daydreams.  “Steve!!” Startled, he turned to look at her.  “Pay attention!” Steve locked his gaze

6、on Miss White with adolescent adoration, as she began to go over the test results for the seventh grade.  “You all did pretty well,” she told the class, “e____cept for one boy, and it breaks my heart to tell you this, but...” She hesitated, pinning Steve to his seat with a sharp stare, her eyes sear

7、ching his face.  “...The smartest boy in the seventh grade is failing my class!” She just stared at Steve, as the class spun around for a good look.Steve dropped his eyes and carefully e____amined his fingertips.  After that, it was war!! Steve still wouldn’t do his homework.Even as the punishments

8、 became more severe, he remained stubborn.  “Just try it! ONE WEEK!” He was unmoved.  “You’re smart enough! You’ll see a change!” Nothing fazed him.  “Give yourself a chance! Don’t give up on your life!” Nothing.  “Steve! Please! I care about you!” Wow! Suddenly, Steve got it!! Someone cared about

9、him? Someone, totally unattainable and perfect, CARED ABOUT HIM??!! Steve went home from school, thoughtful, that afternoon.Walking into the house, he took one look around.Both parents were passed out, in various stages of undress, and the stench was overpowering! He, quickly, gathered up his cing

10、gear, a jar of peanut butter, a loaf of bread, a bottle of water, and this time...his schoolbooks.Grim faced and determined, he headed for the woods.  AnEmptyBo____ Once upon a time, a man punished his 5-year-old daughter for using up the familys only roll of e____pensive gold wrapping paper.Money

11、was tight, and he became even more upset when on Christmas Eve, he saw that the child had pasted the gold paper so as to decorate a shoebo____ to put under the Christmas tree.  Nevertheless, the ne____t morning the little girl, filled with e____citement, brought the gift bo____ to her father and sai

12、d, “This is for you, Daddy!” As he opened the bo____, the father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction.  But when he opened it, he found it was empty and again his anger flared.“Dont you know, young lady, ” he said harshly, “when you give someone a present theres supposed to be something insi

13、de the package!” The little girl looked up at him with tears rolling from her eyes and said: “Daddy, its not empty.I blew kisses into it until it was all full.” The father was crushed.He fell on his knees and put his arms around his precious little girl.He begged her to forgive him for his unneces

14、sary anger.  An accident took the life of the child only a short time later.It is told that the father kept that little gold bo____ by his bed for all the years of his life.Whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems he would open the bo____, take out an imaginary kiss, and remember the

20、-filled, pain-free life equates happiness actually diminishes their chances of ever attaining real happiness.If fun and pleasure are equated with happiness, then pain must be equated with unhappiness.But, in fact, the opposite is true: More times than not, things that lead to happiness involve some

21、pain.  As a result, many people avoid the very endeavors that are the source of true happiness.They fear the pain inevitably brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious mitment, civic or charitable work, and self-improvement. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.Although the other man couldn‘t hear the band - he could see it in his mind‘s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.  Days and weeks passed.One morning, the

27、day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.  As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved ne____

28、t to the window.The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was fortable, she left him alone.Slowly and painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside.Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it for himself.He strained to slowly turn to

The man asked the nurse what could have pelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.She said, “Perhaps he just wanted to

With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages.As he was reading, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible.It had a tag with the dealers name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired.On the tag was the date of his graduation, a

36、nd the words… “PAID IN FULL”.  How many times do we miss blessings because they are not packaged as we e____pected? 41、.  “Very soon, death is ing,” he cried, with tears streaming down his face.Over and over.But there was no one there to hear him.  Then one day the mother eagle appeared at the top of the mountain cliff, with a big bowl of delicious food and she looked down at her baby.The baby looked up at the mothe

42、r and cried “Why did you abandon me? Im going to die any minute.How could you do this to me?” The mother said, “Here is some very tasty and nourishing food, all you have to do is e get it.” “e get it!” said the baby, with much anger.“How?” The mother flew away.  The baby cried and cried and cried

A few days later, “Im going to end it all,” he said.“I give up.It is time for me to die.” He didnt know his mother was nearby.She swooped down to the nest with his last meal.  “Eat this, its your last meal,” she said. 44、was.  “Youre a terrible mother,” he said.Then she pushed him out of the nest.  He fell.  Head first.  Picked up speed.  Faster and faster.  He screamed.“Im dying Im dying,” he cried.He picked up more speed.  He looked up at his mother.“How could you do this to me?” He looked down.  The ground rushe
