II. Grammar teaching
Step1 Give students some pictures and ask them to describe it by using a subject clause.
1.報道稱很多房子在地震中被毀壞。
That a lot of buildings are destroyed in the earthquake is reported.

Whether there are survivors is still a que

3. 不知道有多少人遇難。
How many people have been killed is unknown.

Step 2 Ask students to look at the first six sentences and judge whether the italic part is a question or a statement.

Step 3 Ask students to tell conjunctions that are used in subject clause.
There are three types.
1.連詞that、 whether ?:(“if〞 can not be used here)
E.g. 1) Whether he’ll?come?here?isn’t?clear.??
2) That price will go up is certain.
2. ??連接代詞who,?whom,?whose,?what,?which,?whoever,?wha

E.g. 1) What she did is not yet known.
2) Whatever he did is right.
3. 連接副詞
where,?when,?how,?why等
E.g. 1) How the pyramid was built is still a mystery.
2) When he will be back depends on the weather.

Step 4 Ask students to look at the following sentences and find the subject of each sentence.
1. That the earth moves around the sun is well-known.
2. Whether he will hold a birthday party has not been deci

3. That I didn’t go to Shanghai to visit the World Exposition was a pity for me.
Then teacher will use a picture to describe the subjects of the above sentences. (heavy head and light body)
Why not use “it〞 as a subject?
Ask students to change the following sentences by using “it〞.

Rule 4: Use “it〞 as a subject
1. It +be動詞+表語+主語從句
2. It +不及物動詞+主語從句

3. It +及物動詞的被動語態(tài)+主語從句
said, known, believed, hoped, reported…
