To learn some useful reading strategies: read between lines, and make inferences by the questions. 2. To learn a text about Mr. Bean. 3 To enjoy the fun of the life and don’t behave as stupidly as Mr. Bean. 4.To learn the usage of adverbs: to modify adjectives, to modify verbs, to modify nouns and so on. Teaching materials: Media player, some funny pictures Teaching emphasis: 1. Learn some useful reading strategies 2. Learn a text about Mr. Bean. Teaching difficulties: The ability to grasp important and useful information through reading Teaching methods: Task-based method, co-operating learning Teaching aids:Multi-media，textbook Teaching procedures: Step 1 lead-in Teacher ask the students some questions: 1. Who is the man in the film? 2. what is the name of the player? 3. you laughed so lot and you must like him, right? Today we are going to learn how to write about a person by reading about the player----Rowan Atkinson As a reader, what information do you want to know about Rowan? Students may list the following things: weight height family education or else. The teacher also can give some choices. (weight, height, family etc.) Step 2 Reading 1st Reading (skim reading to get the general idea) 2nd reading and listening (scan reading ) 1) teach some reading strategies 2) get students to listen and read the passage again, and find out the topic sentence of each paragraph. Step 3 Analysis of the text 1. Analyse the text and then get students to read the passage in detail and answer both the four questions of Ex.3 and the three questions of Ex.4. Ex.3 Answers: 1) Mr Bean is in a fancy restaurant because it’s his birthday. We know that because he has brought a birthday card with him that he signs and gives to himself. 2) He doesn’t have many friends because, if he did, they would be at his birthday dinner as well. 3) Mr Bean chooses the “steak tartare” because it is the only dish he can pay for. The rest are too expensive. 4) He is trying to be polite and he doesn’t want the waiters to know that he usually doesn’t go to fancy restaurants. Ex.4 Answers: 1) We know that he’s not like Mr Bean because Rowan Atkinson is very educated and Mr Bean is not. Mr Bean has an ugly little car but Rowan Atkinson has a collection of nice cars. 2) No, they didn’t. His teachers encouraged him to be an actor. Rowan Atkinson’s father didn’t see the value of television. They also lived on a farm and his parents seemed to prefer that he got a good education. 3) Yes, he does. He didn’t want to bee an actor until he met a talented group of people when he was at university. 2. In groups of four, ask and answer these questions: 1. Have you ever watched any Mr Bean’s edies? Which one? What happened in the edy? 2. Which Chinese edian is your favourite? Tell one of his/her edies in your group. Step 6 Homework Find out all the expressions about Mr. Bean’s actions from the text 1 and fill them in the blank.
