In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style.Indeed, there are many examples in my own home town of Tours where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not dominate(影響) its surroundings too much,it often improves the attractiveness of the area. It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破壞) the area they are in,but the same can be said of some old buildings too.Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas.I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative(保守的)and do not like change. Although we have to respect peoples feelings as fellow users of the buildings,I believe that it is the duty of the architect and planner to move_things_forward.If we always reproduced what was there before,we would all still be living in caves. Thus,I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice. 1.What does the author say about historical buildings in the first paragraph? A.Some of them are not attractive. B.Most of them are too expensive to preserve. C.They are more pleasing than modern buildings. D.They have nothing to do with the historic feel of an area. A。 2.Which of the following is true according to the author? A.We should reproduce the same old buildings. B.Buildings should not dominate their surroundings. C.Some old buildings have spoilt the area they are in. D.No one understands why people speak against new buildings. 根據第三段首句“It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破壞)the area they are in,but the same can be said of some old buildings too”可知,作者認可有些古建筑破壞了其所在的地區(qū)。故選C。 3.By“move things forward”in the last paragraph, the author probably means“________.” A.destroy old buildings B.put things in a different place C.choose new architectural styles D.respect peoples feelings for historical buildings 答案:C 解析:考查短語猜測。根據畫線部分后的“If we always reproduced what was there before,we would all still be living in caves. Thus,I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice”可知選C。 4.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To explain why people dislike change. B.To warn that we could end up living in caves. C.To admit how new buildings have ruined their surroundings. D.To argue that modern buildings can be built in historic areas. In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style. B (xx沈陽質監(jiān)一) Jaguars(美洲虎)are the largest cat in North and South America.Their range extends from south of Mexico to Argentina. But in the past hundred years logging(伐木),the growth of cities have disturbed more than half of the cats main habitat, forcing them into living in small groups in different places. Conservationists used to focus on protecting these habitats. But biologists realize now that young jaguars move from one place to another in their hunt for mates and new land. They may trek(長途跋涉) up to 500 miles through the edges of civilization. It is a dangerous journey that takes them far from the shelter of the jungle. Scientist Alan Rabinowitz is president of an organization devoted to saving wild cats. One day, while studying a map of all the known areas jaguars live in,Rabinowitz decided to play a game of connecting the dots.He drew a line between one area and another area.Suddenly he was struck by an idea that could help save this threatened species. Rabinowitz realized that protecting the pathways was just as important as protecting the habitats themselves. He began an international project called“Path of the Jaguar”to check these pathways and make sure they wont bee dead ends.“A jaguar, unlike a human,is not stopped by many things,”Rabinowitz says.“Its not stopped by a river or even a mountain covered in snow.”But things such as factories, highways and dams will halt a jaguar in its tracks, forcing it off course. Rabinowitzs project works to persuade countries to limit industrial development that would block jaguars pathways. These protected areas are not always connected. But these cats are smart—they run across open land in the dark.If they find a jungle with something to eat, theyll stop to rest, just as you might pull over at a restaurant during a family road trip. 5.Alan Rabinowitz studied a map one day in order to________. A.find ways to save jaguars B.join all the small dots C.search for young jaguars D.play an interesting game 答案:A 解析:細節(jié)理解題。根據第三段的第一句“Scientist Alan Rabinowitz is president of an organization devoted to saving wild cats.” 6.Why did Rabinowitz begin the project“Path of the Jaguar”? A.To find out why jaguars like to move. B.To help jaguars find a better place in the wild. C.To make sure jaguars travel smoothly. D.To prove other conservationists opinions are wrong. 根據第四段的第二句“He began an international project called ‘Path of the Jaguar’ to check these pathways and make sure they wont bee dead ends.” 7.The underlined word“halt”in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by“________”. A.kill B.stop C.help D.keep 答案:B 解析:詞義猜測題。根據畫線詞所在句子的前一句“Its not stopped by a river or even a mountain covered in snow.” 8.Which would be the best title for the passage? A.Connecting the Dots B.Protecting Threatened Species C.Finding Jaguars in America D.Limiting Industrial Development 答案:A 解析:主旨大意題。 Ⅳ.語法填空 (xx長春第三次調研) The task of being accepted in a university begins early for some students.Long before they graduate __1__ high school, these students take special courses to prepare for advanced study. They may also take one or more examinations that test __2__ well prepared they are for the university. In the final year of high school, they plete __3__ (apply) and send them to the universities __4__ interest them most. Some high school students may be required to have __5__ interview with people from the university.__6__ (neat) dressed and a little bit frightened, they are determined to show that they have a good attitude and the ability to succeed.
