Thinking back to my years in middle school and high school, I was required to read a number of classics. Today, a majority of those books are now also movies: Life of Pi, The Great Gatsby, Much Ado About Nothing and Anna Karenina, to name a few. Even contemporary books such as The Hunger Games and Harry Potter are gracing the big screen. In discussions with friends, I will often hear them say they are not going to read the book because the movie adapted from it will be out soon, which made me wonder what effect, if any, movie adaptations will have on modernday students. Will the mon Core State Standards (CCSS) encourage them to read the books more carefully or to use movies to supplement their understanding of the text? The CCSS requires students to provide textbased evidence when reading and discussing a book. By focusing on such evidence, teachers can pull specific details from a book that may have not made the final cut when the book was adapted for the big screen. For instance, after reading and watching The Hunger Games, there were a number of details from the book that were missing from the film. A student who failed to read The Hunger Games would not quite understand Rues impact on the games in the same way as someone who had read the book and remembered all the details that went into her death. I am not saying the CCSS will stop students from cutting corners, but I believe if teachers use the support the CCSS provides, it can be a great roadway to ensure all students are digging deep into texts and not just hitting the play button. 5.In the past, the author was encouraged________. A.to read textbooks in the class B.to read movie adaptations C.to read many classics D.to see movies in the cinema 6.What effect does the movie have on modernday students according to the passage? A. Encouraging students to read more books. B. Using the movie to help understand the text. C. Making some of students read too little. D. Helping students to save a lot of time. 7. What can we infer from Paragraph 3? A.Teachers can teach students better by seeing films. B.Students are encouraged to see The Hunger Games. C.Rues impact on the games is presented in the movie. D.Those who only see movies might not understand some details. 8.The passage tells us that the author ________. A.hopes students to see the movies adapted from books B.thinks the CCSS should prevent students from watching movies C.urges students to read books rather than see the films D.tries to ban the CCSS from giving students many choices 由第一段第二句“Thinking back to my years in middle school and high school,I was required to read a number of classics.” 由第二段第二句中的“In discussions with friends,I will often hear them say they are not going to read the book because the movie adapted from it will be out soon”可知,作者在與朋友討論時(shí),經(jīng)常聽他們說不打算去閱讀原著,因?yàn)楦木幍碾娪熬涂焐嫌沉?,也就是說電影讓一些學(xué)生讀的書更少了。 7.D。 由第三段中的“a number of details from the book that were missing”和“A student who failed to read The Hunger Games would not quite...into her death.” 由全文尤其是最后一段中的“it can be...hitting the play button”可知,作者提倡教師應(yīng)遵照課程標(biāo)準(zhǔn),鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生深入閱讀,而不是只看電影。 C [xx山西省太原市部分中學(xué)高三統(tǒng)一檢測(cè)] On July 20,1969,Americans Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the moon. It was a defining moment in American history. More US missions to the moon followed. Now, two congresswomen want to preserve the lunar landing sites by granting them the same protection given to national historical parks. On July 8, a bill called the Apollo Lunar Landing Legacy Act was introduced, which would establish a national park on the moon. The purpose of the act is to preserve the sites for scientific research and to improve public understanding of the Apollo program. Apollo is the name of the spacecraft used by American astronauts between 1969 and 1972. If passed, the bill would protect artifacts, such as footprints and equipment, left behind during the seven Apollo missions. It would also require the United States to ask the United Nations to designate the Apollo 11 landing site as a World Heritage Site. “In the light of other nations and private entities developing or already having developed the ability to go to the moon, the United States must be proactive in protecting artifacts left by the seven Apollo lunar landings,” Congresswoman Johnson said in an email message. “This bill will help ensure that this unique aspect of our cultural heritage is preserved.” Some critics say that the bill does not require immediate attention because NASA does not have plans to return to the moon. Countries like China and Japan have only hinted about sending people there around 2025, but no one knows whether that will happen. Other critics question whether the bill can be enforced and say that it may even violate an international treaty. In 1967, the United States and the Soviet Union agreed that no country could make a claim on the moon. Now, more than 40 years since the last Apollo mission, the Apollo Lunar Landing Legacy Act is making its way through Congress. “I know that it can sound farfetched to say that we are going to have a national park on the moon,” said Congresswoman Johnson. But she believes its important to preserve the lunar landing sites. “These are an important reminder of what has made America great and serve as an inspiration for future generations.” 1.The bill Apollo Lunar Landing Legacy Act was introduced to ________. A.celebrate the first landing on the moon B.set up a national park on the moon C.send a manned spacecraft to the moon again D.emphasize the moment in American history 2.According to the passage Apollo Lunar Landing Legacy Act ________. A.is to be presented to the UN B.is part of the Apollo program C.is cultural heritage D.is meant to preserve artifacts 3.Some critics who doubt the bill argue that ________. A.the bill itself is against an international treaty B.China is sure to send people on the moon around 2025 C.the bill should require immediate attention D.NASA should plan to return to the moon 4.From the last paragraph we can learn that ________. A.the bill is going to be passed B.Johnson is confident of the bill C.the lunar landing sites will be destroyed D.the landing sites make the American proud 根據(jù)第一段最后一句中的“which would establish a national park on the moon”可知,該法案的目的是在月球上建立一個(gè)國(guó)家公園。 2.D。 根據(jù)第二段中的“If passed, the bill would protect artifacts, such as footprints and equipment, left behind during the seven Apollo missions.” 3.A。 根據(jù)第四段中的“Other critics question whether the bill can be enforced and say that it may even violate an international treaty.” Explore India with your own personal car and driver!
