A Spring is here and so is the cycling season. Here are some tips on how to do it safely and fortably. Watch your feet—Pushing with the wrong part of the foot can raise your risk of developing a painful injury of the heel and arch (足背), says Rob Werstine, a sports physiotherapist (理療師) and board member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. You should push with the ball of your foot, he says. Layer up—While its still cool, wear layers of clothing, with clothing close to the body that breathes and outer layers that do not absorb water. Go for bright colors that increase your visibility (可見(jiàn)度). Be reasonable—If you are just starting out and arent in good shape, dont sign up for a 50kilometre ride. And while cycling is great exercise for people who want to get into shape, if your doctor advises you not to do tiring exercise, cycling shouldnt be your starting position,Werstine says. Walk to begin getting into shape and then graduate to cycling. Fix the fit—If you develop lower back pain or numbness in your hands and fingers from cycling, it could be because your bike isnt adjusted properly for your height. A good cycle shopper can help you find the right height for the seat and handlebars, but if you have continuing problems, consider consulting a bike fit physiotherapist, Werstine says. Be mindful—You have to pay attention on the roads to vehicles, other cyclists and pedestrians (行人). Consider taking a cycling safety course to practise your skills. Or do some reading about how to avoid dangerous cycling situations, bicyclesafe. , for instance, lists 10 types of carbike accidents and tells us how to avoid them. 1.Which part of the foot should one use when cycling? A.The heel. B.The arch. C.The toes. D.The ball. You should push with the ball of your foot, he says. 2.From Paragraph 4 one can conclude ________. A.cycling is popular with people B.walking is better than cycling C.not everyone can exercise by cycling D.cycling is helpful to everyone 答案:C 推理判斷題。 C。 3.Whats the main idea of the passage? A.What you should do in spring. B.How to cycle safely and fortably. C.The benefits of cycling. D.How to keep fit by cycling. B。 B Why play games? Because they are fun,and a lot more besides. Following the rules... planning your next move... acting as a team member... these are all “game” ideas that you will e across throughout your life. Think about some of the games you played as a young child, such as ropejumping and hideandseek. Such games are entertaining and fun. But perhaps more importantly, they_translate_life_into_exciting_dramas that teach children some of the basic rules they will be expected to follow the rest of their lives, such as taking turns and cooperating (合作). Many childrens games have a practical side. Children around the world play games that prepare them for work they will do as grownups. For instance, some Saudi Arabian children play a game called bones, which sharpens the handeye coordination (協(xié)調(diào)) needed in hunting. Many sports encourage national or local pride. The most famous games of all, the Olympic Games, bring athletes from around the world together to take part in friendly petition. People who watch the event wave flags, knowing that a gold medal is a win for an entire country, not just the athlete who earned it. For countries experiencing natural disasters or war, an Olympic win can mean so much. Sports are also an event that unites people. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play it—some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a Californian soccer player, has discovered a way to spread hope through soccer. He created a foundation to provide poor children with not only soccer balls but also a promising future. Next time you play your favorite game or sport, think about why you enjoy it, what skills are needed, and whether these skills will help you in other aspects of your life. 4.Through playing hideandseek, children are expected to learn to ________. A.be a team leader B.obey the basic rules C.a(chǎn)ct as a grownup D.predict possible danger 答案:B 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。 5.The underlined part in Paragraph 2 most probably means that games can ________. A.describe life in an exciting way B.turn reallife experiences into a play C.make learning life skills more interesting D.change peoples views of sporting events 答案:C 句意理解題。 6.According to the passage, why is winning Olympic medals so encouraging? A.It inspires peoples deep love for the country. B.It proves the exceptional skills of the winners. C.It helps the country out of natural disasters. D.It earns the winners fame and fortune. 7.Iribarnes goal of forming the foundation is to ________. A.bring fun to poor kids B.provide soccer balls for children C.give poor kids a chance for a better life D.a(chǎn)ppeal to soccer players to help poor kids 答案:C 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。 C In very general terms, popular culture includes the movies, television shows, sports, music, cooking, clothing styles and other examples of mass culture that society produces. Many professors who study culture argue about what is,what is not, and what once was but is no longer popular culture. The fact that popular culture is always changing makes it even more difficult to define (給……下定義) exactly. Most people would probably agree that popular culture is influenced in some way by the cultural products that sell well. Some experts note the differences between a popular or “l(fā)ow” culture and a “high” culture valued by wealthier and bettereducated people in society. For example, such experts might say that a song by Britney Spears is an example of popular culture, but music by classical posers like Mozart or Bach is not. Then again, other experts believe that there is no longer a “l(fā)ow” or a “high” culture because the two have mixed together. The American economist (經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家) Tyler Cowen does not believe in organizing culture into high and low. Instead, he says that a strong economy makes all kinds of culture possible. And no discussion of popular culture would be plete without talking about Andy Warhol, the father of Pop art (波普藝術(shù)). During the 1960s, Warhol created a movement that celebrated turning everyday images of famous people and food advertisements into fine art. Pop artists praised popular culture in all of its forms and made it the subject of their art. Andy Warhol said that once you understood Pop art, you could never see a sign the same way again. And he said that once you thought of Pop art,you could never see America the same way again. 8.Why is it difficult to define popular culture? A.It is changing all the time. B.Professors dont know what it is. C.It stands for specific contents. D.It varies from country to country. 9.We know from the third paragraph that ________. A.bettereducated people usually value popular culture B.popular cultural products influence popular culture C.ordinary people make some music more popular D.popular culture is influenced by classical artists 答案:B 推理判斷題。 10.The last two paragraphs mention Andy Warhol to show the relationship between ________. A.culture and its history B.Pop artists and Pop art C.popular culture and Pop art D.a(chǎn)rt forms and cultural products 答案:C 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。 C。 11.What would be the best title for the passage? A.What does culture mean? B.What is popular culture? C.How was popular culture formed? D.How to define high and low cultures 答案:B 主旨大意題。據(jù)第一段介紹popular culture包含的內(nèi)容,第二段人們要給popular culture下定義,以及通篇討論,就是圍繞“popular culture”是什么展開(kāi)的。 D Next time a customer es to your office, offer him a cup of coffee. And when youre doing your holiday shopping online, make sure youre holding a large glass of iced tea. The physical sensation (感覺(jué)) of warmth encourages emotional warmth, while a cold drink in hand prevents you from making unwise decisions—those are the practical lesson being drawn from recent research by psychologist John A. Bargh. Psychologists have known that one persons perception (感知) of anothers “warmth” is a powerful determiner in social relationships. Judging someone to be either “warm” or “cold” is a primary consideration, even trumping evidence that a “cold” person may be more capable. Much of this is rooted in very early childhood experiences,Bargh argues, when babies conceptual sense of the world around them is shaped by physical sensations, particularly warmth and coldness. Classic studies by Harry Harlow, published in 1958, showed monkeys preferred to stay close to a cloth “mother” rather than one made of wire, even when the wire “mother” carried a food bottle. Harlows work and later studies have led psychologists to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal social skills. Feelings of “warmth” and “coldness” in social judgments appear to be universal. Although no worldwide study has been done,Bargh says that describing people as “warm” or “cold” is mon to many cultures, and studies have found those perceptions influence judgment in dozens of countries. To test the relationship between physical and psychological warmth, Bargh conducted an experiment which involved 41 college students. A research assistant who was unaware of the studys hypotheses (假設(shè)), handed the students either a hot cup of coffee,or a cold drink, to hold while the researcher filled out a short information form. The drink was then handed back. After that, the students were asked to rate the personality of “Person A” based on a particular description. Those who had briefly held the warm drink regarded Person A as warmer than those who had held the iced drink. “We are grounded in our physical experiences even when we think abstractly,” says Bargh. 12.According to Paragraph 1, a persons emotion may be affected by ________. A.the visitors to his office B.the psychology lessons he has C.his physical feeling of coldness D.the things he has bought online 答案:C 推理判斷題。 13.The author mentions Harlows experiment to show that ________. A.a(chǎn)dults should develop social skills B.babies need warm physical contact C.caregivers should be healthy adults D.monkeys have social relationships 答案:B 推理判斷題。猴子親近一位布“媽媽”,而不親近用金屬線(xiàn)編制的“媽媽”,盡管金屬線(xiàn)“媽媽”拿著裝著食物的瓶子。作者在第二段中提到此實(shí)驗(yàn)為了表明:嬰兒需要溫暖的身體接觸。依據(jù)第二段的最后一句話(huà),尤其“... to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal social skills”可知答案為B項(xiàng)。 14.In Barghs experiment, the students were asked to ________. A.evaluate someones personality B.write down their hypotheses C.fill out a personal information form D.hold coffee and cold drink alternatively 答案:A 事實(shí)細(xì)節(jié)題。依據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段的倒數(shù)第二句“After that, the students were asked to rate (evaluate評(píng)價(jià)) the personality of ‘Person A’ based on a particular description”可知應(yīng)選A項(xiàng)。 15.We can infer from the passage that ________. A.a(chǎn)bstract thinking does not e from physical experiences B.feelings of warmth and coldness are studied worldwide C.physical temperature affects how we see others D.capable persons are often cold to others 答案:C 推理判斷題。根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段的最后一句推斷:體溫影響我們對(duì)他人的看法。通過(guò)最后一段的大意排除A項(xiàng);根據(jù)第三段第二句排除B項(xiàng);第二段中的a “cold” person may be more capable可知一個(gè)缺乏熱情的,不易動(dòng)感情的人也許更有能力,從而排除D項(xiàng),D項(xiàng)的意思是:有能力的人常常待人冷淡,此意有悖原文。 第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2分, 滿(mǎn)分10分) 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。 Are you a problem shopper? The answer is yes if you or someone else thinks that you sometimes get carried away with shopping. __16__ If people have regrets later about their shopping, or have an outofcontrol feeling about the quantities of what they buy or the amount of money they use, they may be considered to be problem shoppers. __17__ Addictive shoppers feel driven by the desire to shop and spend money. Whats more, food courts, coffee shops and restrooms are provided, so you dont have to leave the mall because of your physical needs. Therefore, once you bee aware of how market forces work, you will certainly e to control your shopping behavior. For example, how much time you will spend and what areas you will visit can be decided before you enter the mall. Keep a written account of what items you will buy and how much money you will spend. __20__That is vital for gaining selfcontrol. A.Shopping will waste too much of your time. B.A few people shop to relieve their boredom or emptiness. C.Some shopping malls are designed to encourage continual shopping. D.Extreme shopping can lead to a more serious problem—addictive shopping. E.Dont take too much money with you so you can control the number of the items.
