Whole Language Teaching Teaching steps: Unit 1 The first English lesson Step 1 Warming up Teacher can introduce oneself. My name is … I am …years old. I am from … Then listen and check how many people speak. If students can do it easily you can ask some more difficult questions. Who are they? What are they doing...? After that, let students look at the picture. Which words can you use to describe it? Work in pairs, ask and answer. Then ask one by one. S1: What’s your name? S2: My name is … S1: How old are you? S2: I’m … S1: Where are you from? S2: I am from … S1: What class are you in? S2: I’m in Class ___________ S1: Nice to meet you. S2: Nice to meet you, too. Step 2 Listening Listen and read. Let students listen to the tape .Tell students not to look at the books and try to listen correctly After that students listen and check the true sentences. Teacher can ask individual student to answer the question. Then listen again let students try to fill in the chart. name age job city country Miss li Lingling Daming Wanghui Step 3 Speaking Divide the class into groups. Students can introduce oneself to each other in their own group. Then teacher ask the students the answers .teacher can offer every student an English name if possible. Then you can let students practice and they can be familiar with each other’s English name. Students must be interested in this way. Step 4 Vocabulary and pronunciation Through this activity students can master the main words and vocabulary of this unit. Students can make some flashcards to remember the new words. Then teacher ask some students to recite the words. Also teacher can let students make some sentences to remember the words, such as 1 That is a Chinese teacher.2 Miss Green reads Chinese at the desk.3 Twelve friends listen to the Chinese teacher.4 Please stand and watch the match.5 Please sit down and listen to me. After that let students to repeat the sentences. Step 5 Match the words Teacher can do this activity by two steps. First, match then do and listen. 1. Teacher first let individual student to remember the words. Then divide the class into groups. Let students practice the main words in groups. At last teacher ask students to repeat. 2. Listen and do First, read the words. You can say, “Good, please close your books. Oh, no, open your books please. Tom, can you read the words in the box? You can let Tom lead the class to read. Unit 3 Language in use Step 1 Play a game First play a game:What’s his / her name? Tell students the difference between Chinese names and English names, and then present the new lesson. Step 2 Task 1 Make cards Let students imagine as many names as they can, they can suppose themselves as a ic star and also can be a kind of plant food fruit star politic person, if you like ,everything is ok . Then make a name card. This activity can improve the ability of imagination and creative ability, you can insist it in your class, and you will find it very useful for students. Step 3Task 2 Suppose you are at a party, you meet many kinds of persons from all over the world, try to talk to them with the name cards you just made, at the same time write down their information. As the students use the name cards, the cards are different and creative, the information on the cards aren’t their own true information, so it can be called information gap, it can let students really want to know other students’ information, so it can make students feel more interested in the main knowledge of this unit, teacher will have a better result. Task 3: Discussion and Practice 1. Divide the students into groups, let them discuss and write down the information about their friends that they made at the party last night. 2. Role play. 3.
