That’s good news for people like Charley Wang,co-founder of munity food start-up Josephine.Customers can go to Josephine’s website, choose from a list of home-cooked options, pay online and pick up dinner within minutes of placing their order. “So it’s convenient,”says Renee McGhee,60,who has sold her home-made fort food on Josephine.“It’s like, here’s a business in your hand.Run with it!” The pany takes 10 percent of cooks’ ine in exchange for access to the online ordering platform, munity forum and marketing materials. Most of the cooks on Josephine, like McGhee, operate out of their home kitchens. But the pany’s most popular meals e from an unexpected place:a middle school. Willard Middle School in Berkeley,Calif.,is in its second year of partnering Josephine to make and sell hundreds of meals on one designated(指定的) day each month—with some adult in charge. Josephine gets the kind of munity credibility(可信性) consumers want, while the school gets a cool learning opportunity and a much-needed source of ongoing funding. The partnership has also taught Willard students a lot about the food business. However, last month, the city of Berkeley’s Environmental Health Division sent several Josephine cooks—including McGhee—orders to stop selling meals from their homes without a permit. “The issue really is about food safety and being able to inspect how food is prepared,”said Matthai Chakko,a spokesman for the city of Berkeley. Luckily, the kids at Willard Middle School have access to mercial-grade kitchens that have the necessary permits. And the pany says it is pushing to change California’s law regarding who can make and sell food.“People were happy and pleased to e here and get their meals, and I think that’s their right,”McGhee says. 1.What’s the biggest attraction of Josephine? Next thing you know, theres a lump in your throat, your eyes are watering, and you have tears running down your cheeks. A professor of psychology at Tilburg University, in the Netherlands, has studied crying.According to Vingerhoets, therere three types of tears. Basal tears are the first type. They act as a protective barrier between the eye and the rest of the world.Next are reflex tears. They wash your eyes clean when something gets in them. Finally, therere emotional tears. “These are released in response to emotional states,” explains Vingerhoets. Scientists believe crying has something to do with how humans developed and learned to depend on each other. “Humans are very plex social creatures,” says Lauren Bylsma, a professor from Pittsburgh University, in Pennsylvania. “It seems that tears can make them get help and support from others.” She says another reason why we weep is that humans have the longest developmental period of almost any animal. It takes a long time to grow up. Vingerhoets agrees. “I think that the reason why humans shed(流出)emotional tears has to do with our prolonged(延長的) childhood,” he says. “Thats the time when were still dependent on adults for love, protection and care. The major advantage of tears is that you can target them at a specific person.” Vingerhoets says this ability could have e in handy in prehistoric times, when humans were living among dangerous animals. Loud crying could attract predators(捕食者). Tears were a safer way to get attention. “In this case, its better to use a silent signal to ask for help,” he says. Vingerhoets and Bylsma do frequent studies to better understand why humans cry. 1.The tears mentioned in Paragraph 1 should belong to ________. A.basal tears B.reflex tears C.happy tears D.emotional tears 2.What is Vingerhoets attitude to the effects of tears? A.Passive. B.Positive. C.Doubtful.
