It’ll enable us to focus more on our health. BI was selfish as a teenager. I usually spent my time thinking about myself and taking care of my own needs. I let my older brother do most of the work around the house until he left for college. I let my Mom and Dad worry about our bills and problems while I read books, played, and lost myself in my own imagination. This didn’t change even when I went to college either. I studied hard but only to make my own life better. Even when I started to explore my faith and spirituality, it was only to increase my own happiness.I married after graduation and decided to start a family. Of course, I had no idea what hard knocks reality had in store for my selfish soul. Soon I found myself unemployed, deeply in debt, and with a new baby on the way. I found out that life has little sympathy for spoiled people. In fact, all of the struggles I was going through were beating the selfishness slowly out of me.Still, I didn’t give up on happiness. I knew that there must be a way to find it. I finally realized, however, that it had to include more than just my own needs, wants, and desires. The answer began to make itself clear one night shortly after my baby boy was born. I got a bottle and held him in my arms. As I was feeding him I looked down and saw his big, innocent, trusting eyes. I smiled and talked to him. Then he smiled and I could feel my heart growing, expanding with love. I felt such peace and joy. At that moment I had a hint of the truth: it is by growing our hearts with love that we find our happiness.Carolyn Arends wrote: “The more people you let into your heart, the bigger your heart gets. The more love you get, the more love you have to give. It just keeps growing.“ So, keep loving, keep living and keep caring. Keep growing your heart today, tomorrow, and always.24. The Elder One Grows, the More He Gets.C. Help Others , Help Oneself D. Keep Growing to Live a Happy LifeCResearchers are now using three-dimensional, or 3D printing to create models of the human heart to help heart specialists. The heart doctors can use the models to better help patients before an operation.Surgeons(外科醫(yī)生) regularly use digital images to explore the heart in close detail. But no two human hearts are alike. This led Matthew Bramlet, a children's heart expert, to create exact heart models from those images. He says the 3D models show information he cannot get in any other way. The 3D printed model adds a new dimension(側(cè)面) to heart surgery, allowing surgeons to see faults that might not be readily apparent in digital images.A 3D printer uses images from a digital display to create a physical model of a human heart. Pictures from medical tests like a CAT scan or an MRI scan are sent to a 3D printer to create a heart in a plaster or a clay form. The printer then constructs the heart, thin layer by thin layer. Dr. Bramlet says the model matches the real heart in every detail.Dr. Bramlet has built model hearts for different kinds of heart operations. All of the operations were successful. In his first case, digital images showed only one tiny hole in a baby's heart. But the 3D printed model showed several faults that the baby was born with. Dr. Bramlet says those faults could not be seen easily in the images. The heart surgeon was able to change the type of surgery for the patient based on the 3D model. He added that 3D heart models saved time during heart operations.Kathy Magliato is a heart surgeon. She welcomes the new technology. She says it could help her make better decisions before she operates on the hearts of her patients.Matthew Bramlet continues to research the technology. He is working with the National Institute of Health to build a 3D library that includes heart models and images that others can use.28. What’s the limitation of digital heart images?A. A lack of close details. B. Inability to display faults.C. Failure to show personal differences. D. Inaccuracy in the size of the child’s heart.29. What can the heart model created by 3D printing do?A. It can make faults readily apparent. B. It can conduct heart operations.C. It can replace the human heart. D. It can serve as an alternative to a CAT scan.30. What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?A. Dr.Bramlet wasted a lot of time in heart operations.B. 3D heart models have not been used in surgery at present.C. All of the operations were unsuccessful without 3D models.D. The model showed faults previously unseen in the baby's heart.31. How does Kathy Magliato feel about the 3D printing?A. Supportive. B. Tolerant. C. Doubtful. D.
