4、ooperation project) Prerequisite Principles of Economics Course Description: This subject is one of the 24 subjects of Sino-Australia Cooperation Project and is conducted after students have finished the 16 basic courses. This subject considers Global Business management from the perspective

5、 of the manager or employee who is or will be competing in the international marketplace. The subject identifies the major similarities and differences between doing business domestically and doing business internationally. It develops the more macro, general issues, before moving on to explore t

6、he more micro, specific areas that managers face on a regular basis. Having successfully completed this subject, students should: ? be able to discuss theories of strategic management to a Global enterprise; ? be able to analyse and discuss strategies for Global business operations; ? be able (

17、 the basic international business terminology, such as importing, exporting, and Multinational Corporation. It identifies and discuss lhe causes of globalization. And finally, it considers the major centers of international business and analyses existing patterns of trade. Topic 2 Global Markets

18、 Topic 2 explores the legal, political, and technological environment within which international businesses operate. The topic begins with a discussion of the different types of legal systems international companies may encounter. It goes on to discuss (he way technological environments vary acr

19、oss countries. The next part addresses how firms deal with different regulations in different countries and how they manage political risk. It continues on to explore the issue of culture and identifies what comprises culture, then moves on to consider how culture affects international business.

20、 Topic 3 Global Trade This topic discusses the major theories that explain and predict trade and investment. It identifies and describe lhe different forms of international investment and analyzes and discuss the role of the international monetary system in promoting international trade and inves

21、tment. The topic concludes by examining how the spot and forward markets are used in international trade transactions, defines arbitrage in foreign-exchange markets, and explores issues relating to the international capital markets. Topic 4 Trade Policies and Cooperation This topic explores the

22、 issue of national trade policy. The topic begins with a discussion of why governments intervene in the free flow of trade and then considers the various types of trade barriers and how (hey are used. 1( explores how nations cooperate (o minimize trade restrictions and ends with a discussion of th

23、e General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, then examines economic integration and other types of regional trading blocs. Topic 5 Global Strategy Management Topic 5 explores the issue of international strategic management. It begins with a discussion of the basic components of international strate

24、gy, and then moves on to consider the strategy formulation and implementation process. The topic also examines the various entry inodes available to companies as (hey expand internationally. Il begins with the choice of entry modes, and then proceeds to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of

25、 each one. Finally the topic explores international strategic alliances in detail and discusses the various types of strategic alliances and explores the benefits of alliances. Topic 6 Global Design and Operations Topic 6 explores the various organization designs that may be adopted by companies

The topic also explores international operations management. It begins with a discussion of the strategic context of internati

27、onal operations management and its complexities, and then goes on to consider production management and international service operations. It concludes with a discussion of how international firms manage productivity, quality, and information. Topic 7 Marketing and Finance Management This topic

28、explores the issue of international marketing. It begins with a discussion of basic international marketing strategies, and examines the debate between standardization and customization. The topic also explores international financial management. It considers the different issues that internation

29、al financial managers must face, and then goes on to discuss the management of foreign-exchange risk and working capital. The topic concludes with a discussion of international capital budgeting and sources of investment capital. Topic 8 Employee Behavior and Management Topic 8 examines the beha

30、vior of managers and employees in different cultures, and the impact of managerial behavior on international business. It begins with a discussion of Hofstede's work concerning individual behavioral differences, and then relates his ideas to motivation. leadership, and decision making. The topic t
