The opening sets the scene and introduces her husband and herself. Next comes her mother-in-law, whose strong se

34、nse of duty is expressedin a shift to short, emphatic sentences: " Her role is clear. She has to be here. ” What follows is part factual account, part persuasive argument. The author does not simply give a neutral description of the differences between her husband and herself. She clearly wishes to

35、 persuade us that she is right and he is wrong. As a consequence her writing contains much in common with other pieces of persuasive writing.
