第9課時(shí) 八年級(jí)上冊(cè) Modules 10~12 一、閱讀理解 A (xx山東德州陵城第二次練兵)People use different ways to greet others around the world. There are hugs, kisses, and bows. It is not proper to use the same way in different cultures. Let me share a couple of funny stories with you. They all show differences in greetings. Years ago, I worked in a Japanese office with two American colleagues(同事). On the last day, we invited all of the Japanese colleagues to dinner at a restaurant on the top floor. After dinner, we all went in an elevator(電梯). My American colleagues would get off on the third floor. And the others would continue to the first floor. When the elevator arrived at the third floor, my American colleagues got off. They were talking to each other, They didnt turn back, or smile or wave to the others. But all the Japanese colleagues bowed to their backs as they walked away. I never felt so embarrassed to be an American. I got off on the next floor. And I turned and bowed to the Japanese colleagues in the elevator. Of course, they all bowed to me, too. In America, hugs are normal among friends. It is the way you say hello to them. But it doesnt work in Japanese culture. Most Japanese people only do this with people they love. They even seldom hug family members. When I first arrived in Japan, I used to hug people. But their look on their faces was like “Someone just killed my dog.” I didnt hug anyone for a long time after that. Young Japanese people are gradually beginning to accept the Western style of greeting, but it is still not proper to hug people you dont know well. Nearly 50% of students say they are worried about robbery on the way to and from school. Now some schools have taught an unusual lesson: selfprotection. Students like this lesson because there are no exams or boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens. Chen Haoyu, a teacher at Beijing No. 25 Middle School, gives young students advice on how they should deal with danger. If you are robbed Keep calm. If you cannot cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police. If you are in a traffic accident If a car hurts you, you should remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you dont know how seriously you are hurt. If it is raining hard and there is lightning Dont stay in high places and stay away from trees. When there is a fire Get away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit. Do not take the lift. If someone is drowning If you cant swim, dont get into the water.
