A Its that time of year when people need to lock their cars. Is it because there are many criminals stealing cars? Not indeed. Rather, its because of goodhearted neighbors who want to share their harvest. Sharon recently had a good year for tomatoes. She and her family had eaten and canned so many that theyd begun to feel their skin turn slightly red. Thats when she decided it was time to share her blessings. Eventually she found a neighbor willing to have the tomatoes. “Feel free to take whatever you want,” Sharon told her. Later that day, Sharon found that her garden had indeed been harvested. She thought it a good way to help someone and the food didnt go to waste. A few days later, the neighbor knocked at the door, holding a loaf of bread: “I want to thank you for all of the tomatoes, and I have to admit that I took a few other things and hoped you wouldnt mind.” Sharon couldnt think of anything in her garden that had been worth harvesting and said so. “But you did,” the neighbor said. “You had some of the prettiest zucchini.” Sharon was confused. She hadnt even planted any zucchini. But her neighbor insisted that there were bright green zucchini. Sharons curiosity got the better of her and she had to go to see where the zucchini had grown. When the neighbor pointed at the long green vegetables, Sharon smiled. “Well, actually, those are cucumbers that we never harvested, because they got too big, soft and bitter.” The neighbor looked at Sharon, shock written all over her face. She hesitated a few times, and then smiling, held out the bread, part of a batch (一批生產(chǎn)量) she had shared all over the neighborhood, “I brought you a loaf of cucumber bread. I hope you like it.” 1.What might happen if a car were left unlocked in Sharons neighborhood at harvest time? A.It could be stolen. B.It might be loaded with vegetables or fruits. C.Neighbors might borrow it. D.Its owner would be warned by the guards. B 2.Why did Sharon want to share the tomatoes? A.Her familys skin became red. B.Her neighbors did the same thing. C.There were too many to consume. D.It was good for neighborhood relationships. 根據(jù)第二段中的“Sharon recently had a good year for tomatoes. She and her family had eaten and canned so many that theyd begun to feel their skin turn slightly red.Thats when she decided it was time to share her blessings”可知,Sharon想分享西紅柿是因為她家的西紅柿多得吃不完了。 答案:C 3.How did Sharon feel when she found her garden harvested? A.Delighted. B.Confused. C.Annoyed. D.Surprised. 第二段提到Sharon找到了一個愿意摘走她的西紅柿的鄰居,并讓鄰居隨便摘取,再根據(jù)“She thought it a good way to help someone and the food didnt go to waste”可知,當Sharon發(fā)現(xiàn)有人去過她的園子摘西紅柿時,她應是感到高興的。 答案:A 4.Which is true about the loaf of bread? A.It was baked for Sharon only. B.The neighbor had tasted it. C.It was made from zucchini. D.It might not taste good. D B CocaCola is probably the most famous brand in the world, and in some areas you_can_even_access_it_easier_than_clean_drinkable_water. Although the company is trying to present itself as a healthconscious company, you cant really say that drinking cola is healthy for you. Still, we all drink cola, some more and some less, and we tell ourselves that its all okay as long as we dont overdo it. However, CocaCola has other functions besides drinking. Cola removes the tarnish(暗銹) from old pennies. Got some old rusty pennies? Not to worry! Put them inside a glass of cola and let them rest for a while. When you get them out, youll have shiny pennies that will look as if they were coined a couple of days ago. If you couldnt clean those pennies with industrial acids, just buy a can of cola and let it do its magic! You can remove gum from your hair with cola. If youve got gum stuck in your hair and dont know a better way to get it out, dont worry, you wont have to cut it. Just pour some cola into a bowl and dip the part of your hair with gum on it inside. Leave it for a couple of minutes and then simply wipe off the gum. You can make an exploding fountain. You probably know about this one. You can make an exploding fountain by putting a mint (薄荷糖) inside a twoliter bottle. Then move away from the bottle and get ready for a CocaCola explosion. This is a fun thing to do, but it is also a warning—dont eat a mint and drink cola at the same time, because a similar thing could happen to your stomach. 5.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 imply? A.The expense of CocaCola is low. B.CocaCola enjoys great popularity. C.CocaCola is safe for people to drink. D.CocaCola is easier to get than drinkable water. 畫線句前面提到“CocaCola is probably the most famous brand in the world”,故畫線句是用來進一步說明可口可樂的受歡迎程度的,故選B項。 答案:B 6.What can cola be used to do? A.Improve peoples hair. B.Dissolve the gum. C.Make pennies shiny. D.Take the place of acids. 根據(jù)第二段中的“Cola removes the tarnish(暗銹) from old pennies”“When you get them out, youll have shiny pennies”可知,可樂可以讓生銹的舊硬幣變得有光澤。 答案:C 7.Why cant we eat a mint and drink cola at the same time? A.It can cause harm to our stomach. B.It might make our stomach smaller. C.Mints with cola will produce heat. D.The mint will release poisonous substances. A 8.Whats the main idea of the text? A.The major ingredients of CocaCola. B.Why CocaCola is popular among the young. C.Some of the strangest uses of CocaCola. D.Why we cant drink CocaCola too often. Stress is a popular cause of major diseases affecting people worldwide.
