Two independent studies found more beneficial nutrients in everything from frozen broccoli florets to carrots. In two out of three cases frozen fruit and vegetables scored better on antioxidanttype compounds(化合物). Consumption of these antioxidant compounds is considered beneficial in preventing cancer and supporting the wording of the body, brain, skin and eyes. Produce bought from the supermarket greengrocery sections is full of color, while many stores even use fine mist sprays(噴劑) to give a just picked look. This supermarket theatre convinces shoppers to pay an extra payment for food that they believe is good for their family’s health as well as being tasty. However, the reality is that these vegetables and fruit may well have been held in storage for a month, while they then sit in the fridge at home for days before being eaten. Over the days, they gradually deteriorate, slowly losing some of the nutrients associated with leafy greens and fruit. By contrast, frozen vegetables and fruit are chilled(冷藏) soon after harvest and so keep higher levels of vitamins and antioxidants until they are eaten. Two teams, one from Leatherhead Food Research and the other from the University of Chester, carried out 40 tests to measure nutrient levels in produce which had been sitting in a fridge for three days and the frozen equivalent (相等物). The findings show that eating newly picked produce is the healthiest option; however, frozen food can be almost as good and is often better than items sold as“fresh”. Leatherhead’s Dr Rachel Burch said:“We must ignore the mistaken opinion that fresh food is always better for us than frozen food.” These results show that frozen food can be nutritionally comparable to fresh produce. Direct comparison: In two out of three cases frozen fruit and vegetable scored better on antioxidanttype compounds including Vitamin C, polyphenols and anthocyanins (多酚和花青素), a study found. Her team found frozen broccoli had higher levels of Vitamin C. However, fresh food scored better on polyphenols, which are thought to help prevent cancer. 4.What does the passage mainly tell us? A.Fresh food is better than frozen food. B.Frozen food might cause cancer. C.Frozen food is as good as fresh food. D.Frozen food is better than “fresh” food. 5.Why do some supermarkets spray fine mist on fruit and vegetables? A.To keep them in good quality. B.To make them taste good. C.To make them look fresh. D.To make them sell cheaply. 根據(jù)第二段中“many stores even use fine mist sprays (噴劑) to give a just picked look...However,the reality is that these vegetables and fruit may well have been held in storage for a month, while they then sit in the fridge at home for days before being eaten.” 6.What does the underlined word “deteriorate” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Grow worse. B.Grow better. C.Remain the same. D.Die out. 根據(jù)下文“slowly losing some of the nutrients associated with leafy greens and fruit”可知,綠葉蔬菜和水果逐漸失去某些營養(yǎng)素,由此可知蔬菜和水果逐漸變壞。 7.What is more helpful in preventing cancer? A.Vitamin. B.Frozen fruit and vegetables. C.Fresh fruit and vegetables. D.Anthocyanins. 根據(jù)最后一段最后一句“However, fresh food scored better on polyphenols, which are thought to help prevent cancer.” Finding time to enjoy life is becoming harder and harder. As the average workweek lengthens, leisure time drops. Yet some of the world’s busiest people are able to develop rewarding careers and also make time for family and leisure activities. Here is their best advice plus that of timemanagement experts: 1.Use your peak hours wisely. People tend to be most alert in late morning and midevening. Afternoon brings an increase in sleepiness.Use your highefficiency hours to handle difficult jobs or engage in creative thinking. For lowefficiency times, concentrate on cleaning up or sorting your mail. By adapting to your mental condition, you can accomplish more in less time. 2.Make a plan. Just 20 minutes of organizing can save an hour of extra effort remembering what must be done.“Don’t try to carry your life around in your head,”says Lucy Hedrick, author of Five Days to an Organized Life.“Write things down so you can free your brain for more inventive pursuit (追求).” 3.Discourage dropins. The person who welcomes every visitor will get plenty of conversation but won’t accomplish much. The trick is to develop harmless ways to protect yourself from minutestealing interruptions. David E. Levy, a publicrelations consultant(顧問), uses an alternative to the opendoor policy by keeping his door half open. The message is clear: he really doesn’t want you to come in, but you can if it is important. 4.Tame(馴服) the telephone. Few devices save more minutes—or waste so many more—than the telephone. Signal the end of your conversation with a phrase such as“Before we hang up...”. You can save even more time by not taking every incoming call. Keep a record of when people you call regularly are least busy and call them at those times. Even better, make appointments to call important contacts. To help us gain an extra hour every day, a clockmaker in Dallas has created a timer measuring each minute at 57.5 seconds. The 2.5 seconds borrowed from each minute add up to an extra 60 minutes at the end of each day. 8.According to Lucy Hedrick, you should . A.carry out your plans when you are free B.stop occupying your mind with lots of things C.forget everything annoying when taking a walk D.enjoy your life whenever you can B B。 9.Why does David E. Levy keep his door half open? A.To show dropins are not welcome at all. B.To tell dropins to come if they want. C.To keep unimportant visitors from dropping in. D.To indicate he is expecting a visitor. The message is clear: he really doesn’t want you to come in,but you can if it is important. C。 10.Who works most efficiently according to the passage? A.An editor who is trying to produce a title for his article in the afternoon. B.A manager who is designing selling plans with his office door open. C.A visitor to a mayor without making an appointment. D.A student in class without taking any incoming calls. 通讀全文,根據(jù)文章中的Use your peak hours wisely部分的下午效率不高,排除A;根據(jù)文章中的Discourage dropins部分可知,開門辦公的經(jīng)理效率不高;根據(jù)Tame(馴服) the telephone部分中的Even better, make appointments to call important contacts. You can save even more time by not taking every incoming call. D。 11.What’s the best title of the passage? A.Gain an Extra Hour Every Day B.Live One Day at a Time C.How to Live Your Life to the Fullest D.Create Your Own Opportunities A 解析:標(biāo)題歸納題。 故選A。 Studies show that you may be lied to every day anywhere from 10 to 200 times. We say,“Nice song.”“Honey, you don’t look fat in that, no.”But another study shows that strangers lied three times within the first 10 minutes of meeting each other. We lie more to strangers than we lie to coworkers. Men lie eight times more about themselves than they do other people. Women lie more to protect other people. If you’re married, you’re going to lie to your wife/husband in one out of every 10 communications. If you’re unmarried, that number drops to three. But look, if at some point you got lied to, it’s because you agreed to get lied to. Truth about lying: Lying is a cooperative act. Not all lies are harmful. Sometimes we’re willing to lie for the sake of social dignity, maybe to keep a private secret. Lying is complex. It’s woven into the fabric of our daily and business lives. We’re deeply disturbed by the truth. We explain it, sometimes for very good reasons, other times just because we don’t understand the gaps between ideals and realities in our lives. We’re against lying, but secretly we’re for it in ways that our society has practiced for centuries and centuries. It’s as old as breathing. It’s part of our culture and history. Think the stories from Dante, Shakespeare, the Bible, News of the World. Lying has great value to the evolution of human being. Researchers have long known that the more intelligent the species are, the more likely it is to lie. We human like to become leaders. It starts really early. How early? Well, babies will pretend to cry, pause, wait to see who’s coming and then go right back to crying. Oneyearolds learn hiding truth. Fiveyearolds lie outright and try to control via flattery(討好). Nineyearolds masters of covering up. So what do we do about lies? Well there are steps we can take to guide our way through the bushes. Trained lie spotters get to the truth 90% of the time. The rest of us, we’re only 54% accurate. Why is it so easy to learn? There are clever liars and stupid liars. There’re no real original liars. We all make the same mistakes. We all use the same techniques. 12.From Paragraph 1 we learn that lying is very . Sometimes they try to get out of a class to escape a teacher they don’t like. Here is some advice to solve this problem. Ask yourself,“What can I learn from this teacher?” Even if you don’t worship(崇拜) his or her personality or lectures, dig deep until you find a subject in which he or she is very knowledgeable. Focus on that part of the teacher’s personality, and use him or her as a tool for learning.
