111 Unit2 Project Teaching aims: Improve the students’ ability and provide practice. Master the usage of some useful words and expressions. Write a speech about entering a new sport into the Olympics Important points & difficult points: Write a speech and present it in the class Procedure: Step 1 Lead-in 1. Can you name some sporting events that are performed in the Olympics? 2. Which of them do you like best? Why? 3. What can we do to enter a new sport into the Olympics? (show pictures to help the Ss) ●根據(jù)國際奧委會(huì)的資料,奧運(yùn)會(huì)比賽項(xiàng)目是這樣的分的:大項(xiàng)(SPORT)、分項(xiàng)(DISCIPLINE)和小項(xiàng)(EVENT),與雅典奧運(yùn)會(huì)一樣,北京奧運(yùn)會(huì)的比賽項(xiàng)目是大項(xiàng)28項(xiàng),與雅典奧運(yùn)會(huì)一樣,這28項(xiàng)為:田徑、賽艇、羽毛球、壘球、籃球、足球、拳擊、皮劃艇、自行車、擊劍、體操、舉重、手球、曲棍球、柔道、摔跤、水上項(xiàng)目、 現(xiàn)代五項(xiàng)、棒球、馬術(shù)、跆拳道、網(wǎng)球、乒乓球、射擊、射箭、鐵人三項(xiàng)、帆船帆板和排球。其中,有些項(xiàng)目沒有分項(xiàng),而最多分項(xiàng)最多的項(xiàng)目是水上,包括了游泳、花樣游泳、水球和跳水4個(gè)分項(xiàng),而田徑雖然沒有分項(xiàng),卻有46個(gè)小項(xiàng),男子24個(gè)小項(xiàng),女子22個(gè)小項(xiàng),是奧運(yùn)會(huì)項(xiàng)目中金牌最多的;其次是游泳,雖然沒有分項(xiàng),但是有32 個(gè)小項(xiàng),男女各16項(xiàng)。 ●Requests by International Federations accepted by the EB for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing ????Football ????Request: increase number of female teams from 10 to 12. Step 2 Listening and reading: Listen to taping of the passage on page 38, and find out answers to the following questions. Part 1 What requirements must be met before a sport can be considered by IOC? First, a sport must have its own international association. Next, it must be practiced by men in at least 75 countries on at least four continents and practiced by women in at least 40 countries and on three continents. Besides, a current sport must be dropped. Part 2 What kind of sports have been removed from the Olympics? Why? Golf, rugby, polo and power boating. Because these sports became less popular and had to make way for new, more popular sports. Part 3 What sports have been added in the Olympics only recently? And in which year? Tae kwon do, in 2000. Part 4 Which sport is still trying to get into the Olympics? Wushu, a Chinese martial art. Step 3 Consolidation: Fill in the blanks 1._________ a sport into the Olympics can be a long _______. There are many ___________ that must be met before a sport can be ___________ by the International Olympic Committee. 2.Some sports that were part of the Olympics in the past have been ________. 3. Many people think that ________ Olympic sports like rugby and golf will be __________ again, as they are now very popular and are played all around the world. 4. However, the IOC is looking at _________ the number and type of sports __________ in the Olympic in the future, so wushu fans __________ get what they are hoping for. Step 4 Part B Preparing a speech Entering a new sport into the Olympics Planning Work in small groups. Are there any sports you would add to the Olympic programme? Are there any sports you think should not be in the Olympics? If so, which ones and why? Write down the sport your group has chosen _____ Discuss the tasks listed below and decide which group members will be responsible for each task. Write the names beside each task. Research __________ Write the speech ____________ Write the outline _________ Give the speech ____________ Preparing Find the information you need and the group decide what to include in the speech. Write an outline of the speech, and when finished, it needs approving by the group. Producing 1. Write the speech based on the outline, and make sure that the first sentence gets the audience’s attention. 2. Correct any mistakes and add any new ideas if possible 3. Revise the speech. 4. Make notes and familiarize themselves with what they are going today. 5. Practise the speech in front of the other group members. Presenting 1. Give the speech to the class. 2.
