111 Unit 4 Law and order Project Making a proposal about protecting intellectual property This section is designed to give you a chance to practise your English by completing a project. You will first read an information sheet about intellectual property. You are expected to work out a proposal on how to protect intellectual property. The purpose of this section is to encourage you to use what you have learnt to finish a project by working together. During the course of the project, you will discuss what should be included in your proposal and learn how to organize the facts you find. In order to finish the project, you will need to cooperate and work together to complete each part of the project. Reading Part A 1. Please answer the following questions: Have you ever downloaded a song or a film from the Internet? Did you pay for the music or the film? Why do you think copying films and music without permission is a crime? (It is illegal to copy intellectual property without permission. Intellectual property is protected by law.) 2. You are going to read an information sheet about intellectual property. You will be divided into groups of four. Each group must only read one part of the information sheet. Takes notes on the main points while you are reading. Compare your notes to decide which parts of the information had the most important in it. For example: Notes for Part 1 Intellectual property—ideas: inventions, writing, artwork, symbols and designs used in business Intellectual property Industrial property Copyright inventions trade marks industrial designs novels films music artwork architectural designs 3. Give the main idea for each part of the text to have a better understanding of the information sheet. For example: Part 1: the definition of intellectual property Part 2: the reasons for protecting intellectual property Part 3: the current problem of piracy that we are facing Part 4: the possible solutions to the problem 4. Read the information sheet again. Work in pairs to ask and answer questions about the information sheet. You may answer the following questions: What does intellectual property refer to? If a company spends a lot of money on research and development of new products, but their new products are copied, what will happen to the company? (This may lead to a big loss of money for the company and the company will probably have to stop their research and development of new products.) Do you think it necessary to protect intellectual property? Why or why not? As consumers, what can we do to protect intellectual property? (Firstly, we must pay to download music that is protected by copyright. Secondly, we should not buy pirated CDs or download music from websites that are offering free music illegally.) 5. Discuss the first 6 questions in Part B in groups of four. Answers: B 1. There are two main categories—industrial property, such as inventions, trademarks and industrial designs, and copyright, which includes novels, films, music, artwork and architectural designs. 2. If someone creates something, he or she deserves to be paid for this. 3. Most have copied music or video material, or downloaded it from the Internet, for private use. Some people copy material such as films to sell for commercial reasons. 4. People with advanced technical skills are most likely to break these laws. However, ordinary people can also break them by copying material or buying pirated goods. 5. We can find information at the UN WIPO website and the WTO website. 6. Do Parts B1 and B2 on page 123 in workbook so that you can be more familiar with the usages of some useful words and expressions in this section. Part B 1. Discuss the last three questions in Part B in several groups. You should discuss what kind of advice you will write in your proposal and how to design your proposal. You should also decide who will do each task in your group. 2. Present your proposal to the whole class. Other groups can give your comments. 3. Read the article in Part A on page 126 in workbook so that you will know more about this subject. 111- 1.請(qǐng)仔細(xì)閱讀文檔,確保文檔完整性,對(duì)于不預(yù)覽、不比對(duì)內(nèi)容而直接下載帶來(lái)的問(wèn)題本站不予受理。
