A new report on 3,375 students aged from 10 to 18 in seven Chinese cities found that 38 per cent of them believe they use the Internet often. While most of them get useful information and use the Internet to help in their studies, some are not using it in a good way. Many are playing online games too much. A few even visit Web sites they should not look at. A middle school teacher from Beijing warns that bad things can happen if young people spend too much time on the Internet. She had a student who used to be good at school. But then he started visiting sex Web sites. He went mad, cheated a girl and was taken away by the police. In order to help young people use the Internet in a good way, a textbook on good Internet behaviour has started to be used in some Shanghai middle schools this term. The book uses real examples to teach students all about good ways of using the Internet. The book gives useful advice such as its good to read news or find helpful information to study. Some students also make online friends. But if you are meeting a friend offline, make sure your parents know. Teachers and parents all think the book is a very good idea. This teacher said the book will be a guide for teens using the Internet. She believes it will keep students away from bad sites. “Many students are using the Internet without guidance from their parents,” she said. “The book will teach students how to be a good person in the online world.”(nmet168) 46. The third paragraph mainly tells us that ________. A. some students are not using the Internet correctly B. all students in Beijing use the Internet to help their school work C. a teacher in Beijing is worried about her students D. some students visit sex Web sites 47. The textbook mainly tells us ________. A. why we should use the Internet B. not to visit sex Web sites C. how to use the Internet correctly D. how to get help from others 48. The writer advises the readers to ________. A. let their parents know before visiting their online friends B. not to make friends on line C. read the textbook carefully D. only read news on the Internet 49. From this passage we know that ________. A. more and more students have given up visiting bad Web sites B. schools and teacher begin to pay attention to students’ use of the Internet C. no more homework will be given in Shanghai D. less and less information can be found on line B Most of us are used to seasons. Each year, spring follows winter, which follows autumn, which follows summer, which follows spring. And winter is colder than summer. But the earth goes through temperature cycles over much longer periods than those that we experience. Between 65,000 and 35,000 years ago, the planet was much colder than it is now. During that time the temperature also changed a lot, with periods of warming and cooling. Ice melted during the warm periods, which made sea levels rise. Water froze again during the cold periods. A new study from Switzerland, sheds light on where ice sheets melted during the ice age. It now seems that the ice melted at both ends of the earth, rather than just in either northern or southern regions. This surprised the researchers from the University of Bern. Scientists have long assumed that most of the ice that melted was in the Northern hemisphere(半球) during the 30,000-year long ice age. That belief was held because the North Pole is surrounded by land, while the South Pole is surrounded by the Antarctic Ocean. It is easier for ice sheets to grow on land. If surrounded by sea the ice can easily just slip into the ocean instead of building up. The researchers used a puter model to look at ways the ice could melt and how it might affect sea levels. They pared these results to evidence of how temperatures and currents actually changed during that time. The model showed that if it was only in the Northern hemisphere that ice melted, there would have been a bigger impact(影響) on ocean currents(洋流) and sea temperatures than what actually happened. Studies suggest that melting just in the Southern hemisphere would have been impossible, too. The only reasonable conclusion, the scientists could make, was that ice melted equally in the North and the South. It is still a mystery as to what caused the temperature changes that caused the ice to melt. 50. The North Pole is surrounded by land, while the South Pole is surrounded by the Antarctic Ocean. So scientists thought that ________. A. most of the ice melted in the Northern hemisphere B. most of the ice melted in the Southern hemisphere C. The North Pole is colder than South Pole D. The South Pole is colder than North Pole 51. We can infer from the passage ________. A. the ice can easily just slip into the ocean B. volcanoes caused the ice to melt C. melting just in the Northern hemisphere would have been impossible D. researchers often use the puter models help their research work. 52. The scientists are not sure ________. A. how long the ice age lasted B. where ice sheets melted during the ice age C. what caused the temperature changes D. what the earth is made up of 53. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. A puter model B. Studies show ice melted equally in the North and the South during the ice age C. Most of the ice melted in the Northern hemisphere during the 30,000-year long ice age. D. Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the USA or Australia. They also want their children to take extra courses or activities where they will either learn a musical instrument or ballet, or other classes that will give them a head start in life. 54 So parents will spend unreasonable amount of money on education. 55 However, what most parents fail to see is that the best education they can give their children is usually very cheap. Parents can see that their children’s skills vary. Some children are skilled in some areas while poor in others. 56 The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take multiple-choice tests and how to study well, but not teaching them the most important skills: they need to be confident, happy and clever. Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework. Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. 57 It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. The result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of confidence. Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse his interest.he will spend hours looking at them, trying to fix them; your child might bee an engineer when he grows up. 58 And that is more important. A. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. B. These activities are teaching a child not only to read a book, but also to think , to use his mind. C. What most parents fail to realize though,is that today’s children lack self-respect and self-confidence. D. Even poor couples will buy a puter for their son or daughter. E. The more cost in education, the better the result will be. F. Cooking demands patience and time. IV.短文改錯(cuò) Some Americans judge success on the length of his vacations. The man who gets a month’s vacation each year consider himself more successful than the man gets two weeks. Many people want to be teachers because it was teachers who canget three-month vacation every year. Some college teachers who teach the three classes considerthemselves less successful than that who teach only one or two , or none in all . In short, the less work Americans do, the less successful they consider themselves.
