2019年高考英語一輪總復(fù)習(xí) Unit 1 A land of diversity課時作業(yè) 新人教版選修8 Ⅰ.閱讀理解 Tail Spin (xx北京卷)Two dolphins race around in a big pool in the Ocean Park. The smaller dolphin,Grace, shows off a few of her tricks, turning around and waving hello to the crowd. The most amazing thing about her, however,is that shes even swimming at all.She doesnt have a tail. Grace lost her tail as a baby when she got caught up in a fish trap. When the dolphin arrived at the Ocean Park in December xx,she was fighting for her life.“Is she going to make it?” Her trainer,Abbey Stone, feared the worst.Grace did make it—but her tail didnt. She ended up losing her flukes and the lower part of her peduncle. Over the past six years, she has learned to swim without her tail.Dolphins swim by moving their flukes and peduncle up and down.Grace taught herself to move another way—like a fish! She pushes herself forward through the water by moving her peduncle from side to side. The movements put harmful pressure on Graces backbone. So a pany offered to create a manmade tail for her.The tail had to be strong enough to stay on Grace as she swam but soft enough that it wouldnt hurt her. The first time Grace wore the artificial tail, she soon shook it off and let it sink to the bottom of the pool. Now,she is still learning to use the tail. Some days she wears it for an hour at a time, others not at all.“The new tail isnt necessary for her to feel fortable,” says Stone,“ but it helps to keep that range of motion(動作)and build muscles(肌肉).” Now,the dolphin is about to get an even happier ending. This month,Grace will star in Dolphin Tale,a film that focuses on her rescue and recovery. Her progress has inspired more than just a new movie. Many people travel from near and far to meet her.Seeing Grace swim with her manmade tail gives people so much courage. 1.When Grace first arrived at the Ocean Park, her trainer worried about her________. A.physical build B.potential ability C.chance of survival D.a(chǎn)daptation to the surroundings 解析:細(xì)節(jié)理解題。從第二段的“Is she going to make it?” C 2.A manmade tail is created for Grace to________. A.let her recover faster B.make her fortable C.a(chǎn)djust her way of swimming D.help her perform better tricks 解析:細(xì)節(jié)理解題。 C 3.The story of Grace inspires people to________. A.stick to their dreams B.treat animals friendly C.treasure what they have D.face difficulties bravely 答案:D B (xx蘇州模擬) “What should I do with the diary Ive kept for almost 50 years?” Post your advice below. The best responses will be published in G2 next Friday. Ive been keeping a journal since I was 18 and Im now 65.I have more than 80 in a big box.I dont want my children embarrassed(使窘迫)by them when I die but I cant bring myself, yet,to burn them;they are still part of me.Might my grandchildren, with a bit more distance,be interested?Or is there some way I could turn them into something creative?Im thinking art,not a book. If you would like to respond to this weeks problem, please post your ment below. shirleyujest 5 Aug.2011,11:22 p.m. Please dont burn them! What a wonderful source of memories for you-or if you feel youd rather not keep them, possibly what a wonderful resource for theres. Why not contact something like the Mass Observation project at the University of Sussex? Then they will stand as a record of everyday life throughout your lifetime, and if your grandchildren are interested theyll know where to find them. bloggsie45 6 Aug.2011,2:30 a.m. Please dont burn them! If possible, transcribe(轉(zhuǎn)譽(yù))them,or have them transcribed, into a puter medium before your words are lost because the paper has decayed. I recently had an opportunity to read a similar diary of they World War Ⅱ record of an ordinary soldier. It was attractive in the way it differed from the Official Record. I suppose to some degree it all depends on what you have recorded, but many social historians and similar people would find such a plete personal record of a life led during the second half of the twentieth century to be very valuable. Please dont stop writing now just because you are 65! 4.What does the journal owner most probably hope to happen to his journals? A.His children will put them together with him after his death. B.His grandchildren will continue to write following his habit. C.They can be published by famous publishing houses. D.They can be filmed or changed into a TV play. D 5.What does shirleyujest think of the owners journal? A.They supply good memories for others especially his grandchildren. B.They will educate the young to remember the hard life. C.They will make his grandchildren earn more money. D.They will make others learn more about the war. shirleyujest所發(fā)的帖子里的話“a wonderful source of memories”以及“if your grandchildren are interested theyll know where to find them”都說明這個回帖人希望這個老人將如此美好的記憶資源留給后人。 答案:A 6.Bloggsie45 mentions an ordinary soldier in his words to________. A.remind the owner to write more about war B.tell him social historians may be interested in them C.go on writing journals like determined soldiers D.prove mon people can have deep influence too 解析:推理判斷題。 It was already late when we started for the next town, which, according to the map, was about fifteen miles away on the other side of the hill.
